
One in three of women in Europe experienced physical or sexual violence as adults.
Every seventh woman in Germany will experience sexual violence during her life.
- 13% of the women have experienced some form of sexual violence since the age of 15 years. For example rape or abuse.
- About 25% of the women living in Germany have experienced forms of physical or sexual violence or both committed by their present of former partner.
Only few sexual offenses are reported.
- Every year 8,000 rapes are reported in Germany but only 1 in 10 leads to a conviction.
- The recorded incidence of rape in Germany is 9,85 per 100,000 people.
- In 2019, 15,701 children in Germany were recorded by the police as victims of sexual abuse. The estimated number of unreported cases is between 1:15 ( Federal Criminal Police Office ) and 1:20 (Kavemann and Lohstöter), so only every 15th to 20th abuse is reported.
Domestic violence:
- Violence against women is as serious a cause of death and incapacity among women of reproductive age as cancer.
Facts about child sexual abuse:
- Of sexual abuse cases reported to law enforcement, 93% of juvenile victims knew the perpetrator
- Girls are five times more likely to be abused than boys.
Genital mutilation:
- There are an estimated 130 million girls and women alive today whose human rights have been violated by female genital mutilation/cutting.
- Women's rights organization Terre des Femmes estimates that 65000 women affected by female genital mutilation (FGM) are living in Germany.
